The
‘Booing’ of Jobe Watson
West Coast Eagles, always providing a talking a point. I chose to ignore
last week because I believed there was nothing in it but hey, it was done to a
Hawthorn player aka Protected Species so I don’t know what I expected. But I can’t
ignore this week, Jobe Watson being booed every time he got the ball and, quite
frankly, rightfully so. People said “West Coast supporters are so stupid, so
quick to forget to Ben Cousins”. Ok, first off, we didn’t forget Ben Cousins. If
anything Ben Cousins was the reason we were booing Jobe Watson. People forget
that Ben got booed whenever he got the ball, why should Jobe be immune to the
same treatment? Secondly, Jobe admitted to taking a banned substance, Ben admitted
to it too (also the drugs he was on weren’t performance enhancing, they were
illicit so the booing was also to the AFL for not stepping in and allowing Jobe
to play. So as I said, Jobe Watson was rightfully booed.
Now, to the game. The Eagles, despite not winning have now proven that
they can match the best. They had a close game with Hawthorn despite a 20 point
defeat. They very nearly beat Essendon who escaped by 7 points and we can still
afford to lose four games before our season is gone. Unfortunately 2 of our
next 3 games aren’t exactly friendly: we have Adelaide next week which we can’t
afford to lose, then the Western Derby (round 16), then Sydney (round 17), not
a particularly good run. Essendon, good come from behind win though.
So, ignoring Watson, we have a tie for best on ground: Priddis and
Masten. Priddis: 1 goal, 33 disposals, 14 kicks, 19 handballs, 4 marks, 4
tackles and then Masten: 30 disposals, 12 kicks, 18 handballs, 5 marks, 3
tackles.
As I said earlier, West Coast play Adelaide in a must win match at AAMI
Stadium and given our form of the past few weeks, is very winnable. Essendon
play the Power at Etihad which will be a very easy win for them.
My tips: 0 from 1
