Blue Days for 250th
Friday night’s
loss to Hawthorn isn’t just shaming after they blew 20 point lead to lose by 15
points, but it takes an extra degree of embarrassment because the loss
celebrated Chris Judd’s 250th game. At halftime the Blues looked to
be in control after breaking the Hawks defensive structure and they led 8.5.53
to 6.6.42, though the score didn’t reflect that, but a three-quarter time the
Hawks had returned that margin to exactly what was a quarter time: a 2 point
lead for Hawthorn. Then it was Hawthorn’s turn to break the Blues defensive
structure, Carlton not scoring to late in the quarter.
Best on ground
goes to Carlton’s Mclean who had 34 disposals, 18 kicks, 16 handballs, 7 marks
and 3 tackles. Hawthorn, despite winning, all their players played about
average (with the exception of Buddy who kicked his usual 4 goals in the game).
The win puts
Hawthorn back on top of the Ladder and as favourites in Friday night’s clash
with West Coast at Etihad stadium next week, while Carlton enjoy a bye prepare
for the rampaging Swans at the SCG.
