Hawthorn Booked by
Statistics
On Friday Night at
Etihad stadium Hawthorn became the first team to book their Finals appearance with
a 20 point win over a West Coast team that came out of their bye inspired to do
better in the second half of the season. The game was much closer than the 50
point flogging the Eagles got handed in round 2, with West Coast leading by 2
points at half becoming only the third team (apologies if I’m wrong) to lead
Hawthorn at quarter time. West Coast also become the second team (again,
apologies if I’m wrong) to score 100 points or more against Hawthorn. West
Coast also only lost quarter to Hawthorn and that was where the damage was
done: 6.0.36 to 6.2.38 (1st) 6.2.38 to 1.4.10 (2nd) 4.2.26
to 5.1.31 (3rd) and finally 3.5.23 to 4.0.26. Just goes to show that
you can win just one quarter and win the game 19.9.123 to 16.7.103.
Best on ground
is a three-way tie between two Hawthorn Players and an Eagle and you’ll
understand why it’s a three-way tie once you read them. Josh Kennedy best on
ground for West Coast with 13 disposals, 11 kicks, 2 handballs, 10 marks, 8
tackles and scored 5 goals 1 + 131 DT points. The two best on grounds for
Hawthorn also go to the goal kickers in Gunston and Roughead, both scoring 5
goals 1 (like Kennedy), Roughead with 20 disposals, 13 kicks, 7 handballs, 6
marks and 2 tackles, then there’s Gunston with 17 disposals, 11 kicks, 6
handballs, 4 marks and 2 tackles.
Hawthorn now
fight to lock themselves in at the top of the ladder against Brisbane next week
at Aurora Stadium while West Coast continue with their nightmare run home when
they play Essendon at Subiaco Oval on Thursday Night and they bring the game
they brought against Hawthorn, they should win and comfortably so we are by no
means down and out yet. As I said earlier, we can afford to drop 6 games.
