Tigers Roar as Eagles Fall
Where did it go
wrong? First we need to look back to when West Coast played Carlton. 7.23.65.
We dished up a similar effort kicking 8.14.62 last night. The Carlton game was
played without effort and poor skills. We managed to win 2 quarters of the
game: the first quarter 3.3.21 to 2.3.15 and the last quarter 3.5.23 to 2.2.14.
Both those quarters were won by less than 10 points each. Richmond won the
second and third 0.3.3 to 6.1.37 (2nd) and 2.3.15 to 6.1.37 (3rd).
That’s 34 and 23 point differences respectively. So what happened? First off,
our ball skills were horrible. 2nd and 3rd quarter we
either failed to pick up the ball or ran straight past it. On the odd occasion
we managed to get possession of the ball, we butchered it. We either sent it
straight to them or sent it along the ground. A. Selwood has to go. He is past
his prime time and can’t keep up. His brother on the other hand, Scott Selwood,
easily best on ground for West Coast: totaling 31 disposals, 19 kicks, 12
handballs, 1 mark, 11 tackles and at least 32 possessions as well as kicking
1.2.
West Coast now
have to focus on Saint Kilda to have another crack at the 8 and then have a bye
to prepare for a must win match against Hawthorn. Richmond have a bye and then
face Adelaide which is winnable for them given the 41 point belting they handed
us.
