Round 11

Friday Night: Essendon Bombers vs. Carlton Blues

Essendon should provide an interesting challenge for Carlton. They held with Sydney for about half a game before the flood gates opened. While Carlton’s win over the Giants means very little, the magnitude of the victory should not be underestimated. An evenly matched mid field, Carlton’s backs are better than Essendon forwards and Essendon’s backs are better than Carlton’s forwards. Should be interesting.

My tip: Essendon by 12 points

Saturday Afternoon: Greater Western Sydney Giants vs.  Geelong Cats

Need I say more? The Giants against a premiership favourite? It will be a one-sided game.

My tip: Geelong by 95 points

Saturday Afternoon: Adelaide Crows vs. Sydney Swans

Fremantle drew with Sydney. Adelaide nearly beat Fremantle, they stand a chance. The Swans being a favourite to go back-to-back premierships hold a slight advantage despite playing at AAMI Stadium. The Crows must shut down Lewis Jetta if they want to have any hope of defeating Sydney.

My tip: Sydney by 24 points

Saturday Night: Gold Coast Suns vs. North Melbourne

The Suns could cause an upset here. They led Hawthorn for basically a quarter. They led Geelong in the third before being level at three quarter time. North Melbourne are their own worst enemy at the moment and this game could be another case of snatching defeat from the claws of victory.

My tip: Gold Coast by 10 points

Sunday Afternoon: Saint Kilda Saints vs. West Coast Eagles

Monday night was horrible and a painful thing to watch if you’re an Eagles fan. However I wouldn’t discount from the top eight just yet. Statistically speaking 11 wins are needed for a ticket into the finals. West Coast have 5 wins, Saints have 2 wins. A win over the Saints would put the Eagles on 6 wins, meaning they would need 5 more wins from 11 remaining matches (after their bye). Still it’s not an easy task with Hawthorn and Essendon one after the other, Collingwood and Sydney up there too; those are four of games that can they can afford to lose. Back to this game, West Coast are unlikely to make the same mistake twice, Saint Kilda coming off a bad loss to North Melbourne, I’m inclined to think West Coast would want a win before their bye more.

My tip: West Coast by 30 points.

Monday Night: Melbourne Demons vs. Collingwood Magpies.

It’s a cruel joke from the Melbourne board to give Mark Neeld Hawthorn and Collingwood to turn things around, it’s not going to happen, sorry Neeld, but you are gone.

My tip: Collingwood by 90 points.
